NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS
Tennis has
always been popular among the Turkish Cypriots.The Turkish Cypriot players
were among Cyprus champions since the 1940s.
Tournaments are
held regularly in Lefkosa and Gazi Magusa. There are four tennis courts at
the Lefkosa Tennis Club and two at Gazi Magusa Tennis Club. Many of the
first-class hotels also have tennis courts.These clubs and the Tennis
Federation of the TRNC organize at least four tournaments each year, one
being an international one.
Membership of
the Club is over 300.

United Nations
Association
The Turkish
Cypriot United Nations Association was established in 1976 with a statute
drawn after the Charter of the World Federation of United Nations
Associations.The Association is dedicated to the promotion of United Nations
ideals and principles, particularly among the youth.Members of the
Association also contribute to local human rights and environmental issues
through the two standing committees of the Association,namely the Turkish
Cypriot Human Rights Committee, and the Environmental Protection Committee.

The Turkish
Cypriot Human Rights Committee
The Turkish
Cypriot Human Rights Committee is a sub-committee of the United Nations
Association of North Cyprus.
It endeavours
to achieve the objective of protecting and promoting the human rights of the
Turkish Cypriot people, of which it is the main representative in the field
of human rights. The Committee has published a number of works within its
area of activity, particularly focussing attention on violations of the
human rights of Turkish Cypriots by Greek Cypriot authorities between 1963
and 1974.

North Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent Society
The North
Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent Society, which was established in the
extraordinary conditions on November 6, 1974, has won the “national society”
statute within the country borders on May 20, 1975, after the proclamation
of the Cyprus Turkish Federated State.
It had
continued its activities on the issues, such as food aid, medical aid and
investigation of missing persons until 2005 in the framework of its 7
principles (humanitarianism, impartiality, neutrality, independency,
voluntary service, unity and universality)
After the
initiation of restructuring process in the society in August 1995,
institutional development gained momentum. It completed restructuring
process with the first Ordinary General Congress Meeting in September 26,
2005 and launched to new activities with new volunteers team.
The North
Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent Society has seven branches in Lefkoşa, Gazi
Mağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt, Esentepe, Yeni İskele ve Dipkarpaz, in addition to
the main office in Lefkoşa.
The Society
has been continuing its activities with the main principle “ALWAYS
PROTECTING HUMAN DIGNITY”

Cyprus Research
and Publishing Centre
This Centre
carries out research in the fields of history,society, ethnography,
language, and literature.The results of studies are published in a monthly
journal entitled New Cyprus, and in a series of monograms and booklets.
The Centre was
established in 1984 at Nicosia.

Chamber of Commerce
Founded in
1959, the present number of registered members is over 7,000. The Turkish
Cypriot Chamber of Commerce has been a member of the International Chamber
Commerce (ICC) since 1959, and is also a member of the Islamic Chamber of
Commerce, Industry, and Commodity Exchange, the Federation of Commonwealth
Chambers of Commerce, and the Permanent Conference of the Chambers of
Commerce and Industry of the EU.

This Federation was founded in 1954 and registered in 1955.It consists of 15
unions with a total membership of 12,000. It is affiliated to the ICFTU,
ETUC, CTUC, and Confederation of Trade Unions of Turkey.

The Chambers of
Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects
The Union of
the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects is a single
organisation of engineers and architects in North Cyprus.It was established
in the year 1960 by the Turkish Cypriot engineers and architects.All
engineers and architects belong to this organisation, and it has the status
of a Corporate under a special law.

Association of
Friends of Museums of Northern Cyprus
The Association
was first established in 1975 under the name of "Turkish Cypriot Association
of Friends of Museums and Antiquities" and changed its name to "Association
of Friends of Museums of Northern Cyprus" in 1994. The Association is
declared by a Council of Ministers decree dated 12.10.1994 under the serial
number A-1253-94, as a benevolent association working for the public
welfare. The Association is carrying out its functions as a Non-Governmental
Organisation (NGO). The members of the association are mainly archeologists,
architects, architects specialised in restoration, city planners, tourists
guides, and people engaged in similar fields of activity. The seat of the
Association is the "Chapter House" in Lefkosa, a historic building dating
back to the Lusignans.

Journalists Union
The Union was
established in 1982. It has around 150 members.It is the only journalists
association in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The Union's head
office is in Dervish Pasha Mansion, which belonged to the publisher of one
of the first Turkish newspapers in Cyprus, Zaman. The Mansion today is also
a museum.

Chamber of Industry
Turkish Cypriot
Chamber of Industry was established on 29 March 1977, 19 years after being
represented within the Chamber of Commerce which was established in 1958.
There are six organised industrial areas in North Cyprus with over 750
establishments, employing over 15,000 workers. The industries are mostly
made up of light industries, with the share of sectors as: 30% textiles and
apparel; 30% food, beverages and spirits; 15% forestry, printing and
furniture; 10% chemical products and cosmetics; 15% metal, earth products
and and electrical appliances. Besides servicing our touristic
establishments, our products are exported mainly to European Union, USA and
Turkey. Our leading industrial exports are apparel and food products. The
Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry is a member of I.C.C. The management
carried out by a Secretary General and a staff of 5 and is ruled by a board
of 11 members elected biannually.
