SIMITIS CLAIMS "ENOSIS IS ACHIEVED"(!) UPON HIS ARRIVAL IN CYPRUS

Assoc.Prof.Dr.Gul Celkan
Eastern Mediterranean University
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

After all the hard work and toil plus the deception techniques the Greek
Cypriots employed in their accession to EU membership as of 2004, they
were admitted.  But does this imply security and "peace" will come to the
Island?  I should confess I very much doubt this.  How can a community say
they are for cooperation and reunification if they are spending most of
their annual budget on arms, and getting prepared with full force toward
night combat? No matter how much they try to hide their true intentions
behind the mask of EU membership, we as the descendents of a noble race
who has never ever lived under the yoke of foreigners, will not be
deceived and accept the so called proposals offered to us on a "golden
tray" as some 'traitors' name them.

When we think about the legal issues underlying EU's acceptance of South
Cyprus to their so called family, we could come up with the conclusion
that EU is performing illegal deeds.  Why? One is quite right in asking
this question.  According to the 1960 peace agreement, neither community
could become a member to a Union unless Turkey and Greece are both
members, and this agreement also forbids "enosis" i.e., unification of the
South with Greece.  Unfortunately, despite this most apparent violation
ofthe agreement, the world nor the other European countries utter a word
because the philosophy underlying the Greek Cypriot admission to the EU is
based on the crusaders' philisophy: bringing all the Christians together
against the Muslims.

When Simitis said, "we have finally achieved Enosis," some were smiling
while others were shicked. Some said it was slip of the tongue. But when
you read Freud, you realize that the slip of the tongue actually reflects
ones own true innate thoughts or reflections.  Therefore there is no point
in trying to find excuses for what Simitis said.  I am utterly sorry for
and pity the Turkish Cypriots in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
who call themselves the defenders and supporters of the Annan Plan (which
is another form of the Akritas Plan of Makarios) went and talked to
Simitis.  They think they are helping the Turkish community. May be
unconsciously they are, as they go there as the citizens of an Indepent
and Sovereign State.  What is interesting about the words of these party
representatives is that whatever they said upon their return to the
country from the meeting at Ledra Palace were refuted by the Greek
Ministry (Cyprus Mail, April 18-24).  This also brings lots of question
marks to mind.

There is one thing these betrayers should not forget.  But before that
there is a story I would like to relate at his point because I find it so
meaningful.  Before John F.Kennedy was assasinated a Turkish man went to
the White House (how he managed is not accounted for) and asked to be
allowed to remain in the country and work there.  The President asked him
the reasons for his desire to stay.  The man said so many demeaning words
about his own country, his motherland Turkey that Kennedy said he was
soory but he could not let him stay in the States, for a man who so much
denounces his own country for a minor issue would certainly do the same to
the States later on,and that such people were of no use to them.  My
message over here is this: Do not mar and forsake your own country for the
sake of getting a few more Euros in your pocket.  A man without a land is
like a man living nowhere.  Our land, our country, our flag.... We shall
NOT forsake you for all the riches of the world.  We are the children of
Atatürk.  We have gotten used to living freely, independently and as a
SOVEREIGN nation. Who can ever deprive us of these? NOONE! Let Simitis
think he has achieved Enosis.  We have Turkey behind us.  Noone should
ever undermine the power, the strong belief we Turkish people.  Remember
Lausanne Peace Treaty.  Whatever proposals were made, were refused by
Mr.Inönu, the Prime Minister of the time. And the end was victory. The
Foreign Alliance had to admit the Turkish proposals in the end.  What His
Excellency Rauf raif Denktas is now doing makes one remember the year
1924.  As long as you have trust in your nation, which His Excellency
Denktas has, nothing will ever weaken his hand at the table.

Therefore Simitis' claims signify nothing to us!
