AL-MUSTAQBAL
TALAT’S VİSİT TO PAKİSTAN
BY HÜSNİ MAHALLİ
Mohamad Ali Talaat made
his fırst official visit to Pakistan which has good
relations with the U.S. Talaat made this visit upon
an official invitation of the Pakistani President
while no Arab state has considered extending such an
invitation despite the importance of Cyprus to the
Arab world politically, geographically and
strategically. Some diplomatic sources have
considered this visit as a victory to the quiet
Turkish diplomacy which begun with the support of
Ankara and the Turkish- Cypriots of the U.N.
Secretary General plan in April 2004 which was
refused by the Greek Cypriot who have been awarded
an entry to the european Union as the sole
representative of the Republic of Cyprus. This
Turkish position was enough to convince the
international community that the Greek- Cypriot is
the one obstructing a solution to the problem. The
British, U.S. and German position understood the
Turkish stance whereby Secretary of State Rice
received president Talaat in her official bureau'
Washington in the beginning of the year as the
leader of the Turkish-Cypriot. The same thing was
done by former Minister of Foreign affairs Jack
Straw when he visited Talat in his formal office in
the Turkish part of the capital Nicosia. The latest
meeting between Talat and German foreign minister in
Berlin instigate the opposition of the Greek-
Cypriot due to the influence of Germany inside the
E. U. The latest developments in the Turkish foreign
policy especially in regards to the Arab and Islamic
world helped the Turkigh Cypriot in theİr efforts to
open up to Arab and Islamic countries especially
after the OIC recognized the Republic of Northern
Turkish- Cyprus During the last two years, the
Turkish-Cypriot side has received many Arab and
islamic unofiicial delegations. This is due to the
fears of the Arab and Islamic states from the Greek-Cypriot
aİıd consequently the U.S. reactions which does not
wish to see anyone acı without its permission. The T
kish-Cypriot cause is a just cause in alllegal
political and humanitarian standards. The Turkish-Cypriot
has expressed their honest desire to unify the
island into a mutual state, this is something
refused by the Greek-Cypriot who do not recognized
the constitutional rights of the Turkish-Cypriot in
the island. It is worth noting that they are no
mutual that links the Turkish-Cypriot to the Greek-Cypriot
from language, history, culture, customs an religion
and especially since geography has also separated
them since 1974. An important question remains to be
asked: Why are the Arab states always Iate' taking
the rightful decision in the adequate time as is the
cage with Cyprus. It would have been better for
Lebanon, Syria and Egypt who are close to Cyprus to
receive President Talat before Pakistan. They should
also have rushed in engaging in wild economic and
commercial relations with the Turkish Republic of
Cyprus which versities host thousands of " Arab
students especially Palestinian. The Arab should not
forget that this island was invaded by the Moslem
Arabs in the era of caliph Othman before the Turks
and has now turned into a strategic station for the
Turks and the Israelis who are invading it
economically, commercially, financially and through
their security services in an attempt to contain
Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and the Arab world in general.
It seems that many Arabs do not know where this
strategic island is located..." |
