REMAINS OF ANOTHER GROUP OF MISSING PERSONS TO BE RETURNED TO THEIR
FAMILIES (05.09.2007)
The
Autonomous Missing Persons Committee is planning to hand over the
remains of another group of missing persons to their families at the
beginning of October after the completion of identification tests.
The
remains of 57 missing persons, 19 Turkish Cypriot and 38 Greek
Cypriots, have been returned to their families by the Committee
until now.
In a
statement, the Turkish Cypriot Member of the Committee on Missing
Persons Gulden Plumer Kucuk said the Committee is still continuing
work to identify the remains of 320 missing persons unearthed during
the excavations carried out in both sides of the island.
She
announced that the remains of another group of missing persons –
after the completion of DNA tests – will be handed over to their
families at the beginning of next month.
She
also noted that excavation work is still continuing in Balikesir in
North Cyprus and in Taskent in the South, but she added that
geographical structures in Taskent are making it more difficult for
the experts to continue their work.
