The Greek Cypriot daily Haravgi
reported that 4% of Greek Cypriot soldiers in the Greek Cypriot National Guard
had tried drugs at least once and although a detailed investigation had not
been carried out within the army on this issue, the Chief Doctor Hr. Kiprianu
stated that 2% of the soldiers were drug addicts and between 3-4% had tried
drugs at least once.
The daily also drew attention
to remarks made by the Commander of the Greek Cypriot National Guard,
Lieutenant General Athanasios to the effect that they were worried about the
drugs problem and were doing their best to overcome this problem. Athanasios
pointed out that because of this serious problem, for the first time this year
they were organizing a drugs week between 21-26 November 2005. |
