MISTRAL MISSILES PRODUCERS TO VISIT SOUTH
CYPRUS
The Greek Cypriot daily ‘Alithia’,
reported that in order to modernize the Greek Cypriot National Guard’s anti-aircraft
Mistral missiles, experts from the French ‘MBDA’ arms manufacturer firm
are expected to visit South Cyprus in the forthcoming days, or, the latest, by
the end of this month.
The daily stated that the agreement signed
between the Greek Cypriot Defence Ministry and the firm in question was put
into effect on October 5, and the agreement foresees upgrading the effective
range of the Mistral missiles from 5km to 6.4km.
It also said that by the end of the year,
the Greek Cypriot National Guard would upgrade the range of its Aspide
missiles from 13km to 16km, and was also considering putting into effect the
agreeement it signed with the Swiss Oerikon firm. The daily added that 60
million Cyprus Pounds would be spend for the modernization of the Mistral and
Aspide missiles.
