GREEK CYPRIOTS TO PURCHASE
SPEED-BOATS FROM ITALY (16.07.02)
According
to the Greek Cypriot daily “Politis”, as reported in the Turkish Cypriot
press, the Greek Cypriot administration opened a tender for purchasing four
speed-boats, and an the Italian company “Contier Navale” won the tender
with 9.5 million Cyprus pounds.
It was reported
that two of these speed-boats with the length of 27 metres were allocated to
the Greek Cypriot police force while the other two of the speed-boats
allocated to the Greek Cypriot National Guard. Those speed-boats allocated to
the police force will carry guns upto 20mm and the speed-boats of the Greek
Cypriot National Guard will carry guns upto 35mm and
have the infrastructure for mines.
It
was reported that the Greek Cypriot Port Police will use the speed-boats for
the protection of coasts and refugees. It was also reported that the other two
speed-boats are of great importance for the marine force of the Greek Cypriot
National Guard.
