GREEK CYPRIOT DEFENSE MINISTER HASIKOS: “WE WILL CONTINUE TO
OUR REARMAMENT EFFORTS UNTIL AN AGREEMENT IS REACHED” (22.07.02)
The Greek Cypriot Defence Minister, Sokratis Hasikos,
stated that they will continue to their rearmament
efforts until an agreement is reached.
Speaking at the commemoration ceremony of Greek Cypriot
National Guard soldiers who lost their lives in 1974, Hasikos said 28 years
have passed since Turkey’s intervention and that the armed units as the
other units are not at the same position as they were in 1974.
Stressing that they are strengthening their defense
powers, Hasikos said that today
they have contemporary AMX 30 B2, T-80 and BMP-3 tanks and armed units which
are ready for new struggles and sacrifices.
Secret Arm System
In
his statement to a Greek Cypriot daily “Simerini”, Hasikos also stated
that they have bought secret arm system by taking political risks.
