RUSSIAN
ATTACK HELICOPTERS (27.05.02)
According
to information received from the Greek Cypriot daily "Politis" as
reported in the Turkish Cypriot daily "Kibris", MIL Mİ-35M attack
helicopters known as “Aligators” and which were purchased by the Greek
Cypriot National Guard from Russia, are brought to in South Cyprus.
It
was reported that the helicopters which are even better than "Apachi"
helicopters, carry out gun and tank destroyer arms and have the capability to
hit the target even moving slowly.
It
was stated in the Greek Cypriot daily that it was known very early that the
Greek Cypriot administration had purchased such attack helicopters however
they did not publicly announce before because of the confidentiality. It was
also stated that they did not hesitate to give detailed information with
regard to the helicopters since they have learnt that this year the Greek
Cypriot company producing the helicopters had to give information to the
Organisation of Security and Cooperation of Europe.
