CRIME RATE IN SOUTH IS SPEEDILY ESCALATING
South Cyprus’ drug problem is rapidly
escalating its crime rate each day.
According to information received from the
Greek Cypriot daily "Fileleftheros", the rate of those arrested for
drug possession and trafficking within a year had increased to 33%, and a
total of 10,500 ecstacy tablets were seized.
It was reported that while the number of
people arrested for possession and trafficking drugs were 307 the previous
year, this number reached 404 this year and added that while the previous year
2,900 ecstacy tablets were seized, last year this number has increased to
10,500.
It was also pointed out that the number of
ecstacy tablets seized in the last 10 years was less than the amount seized in
2002.
Also, it was reported that two kilogram of
cocaine, half a kilo of heroin and ten and a half kilogram of cannabis were
seized last year.
