CYPRUS CONFESSES TO LAUNDERING MILOSEVIC’S MONEY (30.07.02)
It has
been reported that the Greek Cypriot administration is beginning to confess to
allegations that money belonging to ex-Yugoslav President, Slobodan Milosevic,
was laundered in South Cyprus.
Accordingly, in a statement
made on the issue the Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister, Yiannakis Cassoulides,
stated that, “Cypriot authorities and the Central Bank were not aware that
this money was being used for other purposes. When the Milosevic
administration collapsed, it was revealed that this money was used for other
purposes and Cyprus co-operated and gave all the required information as
requested by Del Ponte. Unfortunately, it was identified that a certain
proportion of this money had been used for other purposes”.
