PARLIAMENTARY UNION OF OIC REFERS TO TRNC
AS ‘CYPRUS TURKISH STATE’
Following the upgrading of the TRNC’s status from the
‘Islamic Turkish Community’ to the ‘Cyprus Turkish State’ at the Foreign
Ministers Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) two years
ago, the Parliamentary Union of OIC (PUOICM) also recognized the TRNC’s
upgraded status.
The final communiqué of the Fourth Conference of the
Parliamentary Union of OIC, which took place on 12-13 April 2006 at the
Istanbul Conrad Hotel, was yesterday (13 April) announced by the Turkish
Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc under the names of the "Istanbul
Declaration" and the Bogazici Declaration".
Bulent Arinc stated that although it was not included
in the declarations, PUOICM unanimously accepted the status of the TRNC as
the ‘Cyprus Turkish State’.
After the decision taken during the 31st
Session of the OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting, which took place in Istanbul
two years ago, to recognize the TRNC as the ‘Cyprus Turkish State’, the
TRNC was represented as the ‘Cyprus Turkish State’ during the 32nd
Session of the OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting, which took place in Yemen’s
capital city Sana’a last year.
