DEPUTY PRIME
MINISTRY AND MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS PROTESTS GREEK CYPRIOT
ADMINISTRATION
Deputy Prime Ministry and
Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday protested the Greek Cypriot
Administration, which did not give permission to 18 Turkish Cypriots to
cross through Bostancı Gate to the South Cyprus in order to have picnic.
According to the statement
issued, it was stated that the Ministry requested the UN to take the
necessary initiative to deter the Greek Cypriot Administration’s
discreditable attitudes.
The statement, which
pointed out that the Greek Cypriot Administration was increasingly
continuing to escalate tension and harassment against the Turkish Cypriots
at the border gates, said the 18 Turkish Cypriots were prevented from
crossing to the south with the excuse that they had meat, chicken and fish
in their cars. The statement added that the Turkish Cypriots were also
subjected to the insult and humiliation of the Greek Cypriot police.
The statement said:
“These types of attitudes
by the Greek Cypriot Administration only serve to escalate tension between
the two people. We once more strongly condemn this event and invite the
Greek Cypriot side to behave with common sense.”
