Presidency’s Under-Secretary Rasit Pertev, Greek Cypriot
administration’s Chief of Diplomatic Bureau Tasos Conis and the UN
Secretary-General’s Special Representative to Cyprus Michael Moller
who met on Monday (31 July) in order to confirm the proposals
regarding the technical committees, which would take up titles list
regarding the core of the Cyprus problem and daily issues in line
with 8 July agreement, met again yesterday (1 August).
During the
meeting, which took place at Moller’s residence in the buffer zone,
the details of how to gather the lists mutually agreed by the two
sides and committees to be established were taken up.
At the meeting
on 8 July between the two leaders which took place under UN’s
supervision, it was decided that committees would be established in
order to discuss the substantive and technical issues with the aim
of preparing the ground for new negotiations and the two sides would
submit their lists of requests and priorities for identifying the
issues to be taken up in the technical committees.
Following the
submission of the said lists by the two sides on Monday, the sides
are now planning to gather topic titles and set up committees which
would take up technical and substantive issues. At the end of this
process, the number of committees to be established and issues to be
discussed will be identified.
Rasit Pertev
stated that another meeting would take place during this week but
that the exact date was not yet certain.
Speaking before
the first meeting, President Mehmet Ali Talat pointed out that the
lists submitted by the Turkish Cypriot side to the Greek Cypriot
side in accordance with 8 July agreement, included all the lists
regarding the Turkish Cypriot side’s requests and priorities.
President Talat
stated that the Turkish Cypriot side had prepared two separate lists,
which are technical issues and substantive issues and stressed that
both lists according to their subjects included all basic issues and
the issues discussed until today. Referring to the issue of Varosha,
which was in the list of substantive issues, President Talat said:
“Before a settlement the changing of Varosha’s status could not come
on to the agenda. Varosha is the part of a settlement”.

TRNC’s New
York Representative Office stated that the two documents under the
title of “set of principles” and a “decision by the two leaders”,
which were initialized during the meeting held between President
Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos on
8 July, were published as a UN document at the UN Security Council.
According
to the statement, the mentioned two documents which were initialized
by the two leaders in the presence of Ibrahim Gambari, UN Under-Secretary
General, were aimed at materializing the formation of technical
committees latest at the end of July.

of AUGUST COMMUNAL RESISTANCE DAY CELEBRATED WITH VARIOUS CEREMONIES
30th
anniversary of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces and the 48th
anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Cypriot Resistance
Organization (TMT) and the 435th anniversary of the
conquest of Cyprus, yesterday celebrated throughout the country as
the Communal Resistance Day.
Communal
Resistance Day marking the anniversary of three different glorious
events in the Turkish Cypriot history celebrated with two ceremonies
held at the Ataturk Monument and Martyrs Monument in Lefkosa.
Meanwhile, similar ceremonies were also held at Ataturk monuments in
Gazimagusa, Girne, Guzelyurt and Iskele.
Security
Forces Commander Major General Tevfik Ozkilic signed the Special
Book and wrote the following:
“Turkish
Cypriots are determined and wish to progress and protect forever the
Republic they established in line with their principles and aims. We
as members of Security Forces, will wave the flag of the TRNC
forever on these territories under every condition and without
giving up.
We once
more emphasize our gratitude for you and our faithfulness for our
country and once again convey our respect in front of your moral
presence”.
