President
Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos are
expected to meet for the second time on 10 August (Thursday).
According
to the information received from the Presidency by Turkish Cypriot
News Agency (TAK), the two leaders will discuss the process of the
formation of the technical committees within the framework of the
lists prepared by the two sides.
The first
meeting between Talat and Papadopoulos took place on 8 July 2006 in
the buffer zone under the supervision of the UN and the mediatorship
of the UN Under-Secretary General Ibrahim Gambari. During the
meeting it was decided that with the aim of preparing the ground for
resumption of the negotiations committees, which would take up
substantive and technical issues would be established and in order
to identify the issues to be taken up by the committees the two
sides would submit their list of demands and priorities.

Presidency’s Under-Secretary Rasit Pertev, Greek Cypriot
administration’s Chief of Diplomatic Bureau Tasos Conis and the UN
Secretary-General’s Special Representative to Cyprus Michael Moller
who met two times on Monday (31 July) and Tuesday (1 August), in
order to confirm the proposals regarding the technical committees,
discussed the details of gathering the lists mutually agreed by the
two sides and the formation of the committees, which would take up
substantive and technical issues. The meetings between Pertev and
Conis are expected to continue during the week and by next week the
studies are expected to be clear.
The number
of committees to be established and which topics would be taken up
within the framework of preparing the ground for new negotiations
will be identified at the end of this process.
