NEW TURKISH AMBASSADOR TO LEFKOSA PRESENTED HIS LETTER OF
CREDENCE TO PRESIDENT TALAT
The newly
appointed Turkish Ambassador to Lefkosa Turkekul Kurttekin presented his
letter of credence to President Mehmet Ali Talat yesterday (18 December).
Turkekul
Kurttekin was welcomed with an official state ceremony at the Presidential
Palace.
Speaking
while presenting the letter, Ambassador Kurttekin stressed that
Turkey’s
support to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the cooperation
between the two countries would continue.
Receiving the letter, President Mehmet Ali Talat expressing his pleasure
to work with Ambassador Kurttekin pointed out that he always had fruitful
studies with Turkish Ambassador Kurttekin’s predecessors. Talat added that
Turkey had always supported the TRNC and this was very pleasing for the
Turkish Cypriots.
Stating
that whenever the Turkish Cypriots faced any difficulties,
Turkey
always helped them, President Talat said he was sure that the Turkish
Ambassador would continue to help the TRNC and show the same performance
as he did in his previous posts. Talat added that the TRNC was progressing
in a peaceful route with the world, however the isolations have not yet
been removed.
Talat
accepted Ambassador Kurttekin’s letter of credence by saying: “Determined
and intensive efforts should be spent for the lifting of the isolations.
We are accepting Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer’s regards and his
appointment”.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Turgay Avcı,
Presidential Under-Secretary Raşit Pertev, Foreign Ministry’s
Under-Secretary Hilmi Akil, Turkish Embassy’s First Under-Secretary
Ibrahim Mete Yağlı and Second Under-Secretary Levent Eler and other
officials attended the ceremony at the Presidency.
Ambassador Kurttekin after presenting his letter to President Talat, laid
wreaths to the Great Leader and Founder of Turkish Republic Ataturk’s
Monument in Lefkosa and the tomb of Doctor Fazil Kucuk – the leader of the
Turkish Cypriot people in their struggle for existence.
