GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE IS
AIMING AT AN ARTIFICIAL AGENDA
It has been noted by the TRNC Presidency
that, by creating an open ended artificial agenda, Greek Cypriot side and
Greece are creating complications so that they would be able to maintain
the ongoing deadlock in the Cyprus Issue in the years ahead.
At the weekly press conference held by
the Presidential Spokesman Hasan Erçakıca, it has been stressed that, it
can clearly be understood from the statements of the Greek Cypriot and
Greek authorities that they are striving to avoid a UN process.
Reminding that the two leaders must
commence the negotiations after the envisaged preparation process to
resume the said comprehensive negotiations in Cyprus by March 2007 are
completed, Spokesman Erçakıca said “Greek Cypriot side is spending efforts
to postpone or even cause the process to be completely forgotten by making
use of the elections that will be held in Turkey."
Spokesman Erçakıca stated that
stipulating new conditions for comprehensive settlement negotiations or
making up new excuses to avoid the said negotiations is no different from
refusing to reach a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus Issue.
Presidential Spokesman Hasan Erçakıca
pointed out that Council of the European Union does not envisage the
Turkish Cypriot side to take a step or give anything in return for the
lifting of the imposed isolations and said “This is also true for the
implementation of the Direct Trade Regulation and for us, it is not an
issue that is open for discussion."
Stating that the Council of the European
Union has not nominated any ports that are to be used for trade while
preparing the draft regulation, Spokesman Erçakıca added: “However, this
does not mean the Council adopts exporting of the goods, originating from
the Turkish Cypriot side, via the ports in the Greek Cypriot side. Also,
for this regulation to be functional and serve its purpose the Turkish
Cypriot goods must be exported to the EU by the Turkish Cypriots via the
sea and airports under the control of the Turkish Cypriots. Any other
expression or initiative will not be accepted on our part."
