MATSAKIS RELEASED Greek Cypriot Member of European Parliament Marios Matsakis, who was arrested on 31 December 2005 at Ledra Palace Crossing point, because he entered the Turkish Cypriot military region and stole the Turkish flag from the empty sentry post on 1 November 2005, yesterday had a second hearing in the Security Forces Court. DIKO MP Matsakis was released because of his diplomatic immunity as MEP and his trial was suspended. Security Forces Court Judge Ahmet Kalkan stating that Matsakis’ diplomatic immunity was also valid in TRNC said his trial was suspended. Matsakis, who was taken to Lefkoşa Criminal Court, because he stole the Turkish flag was released by the court on bail of 50 thousand Turkish Liras, until the next hearing on 5 January.
