ERCAKICA “WE WILL NOT GIVE UP FROM SEARCHING FOR PEACE  SINCE THERE IS DISAGREEMENT”

In line with the  commitment between TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat and the  Greek Cypriot Leader Tasos Papadopoulos, listing of the issues  on the basic parameters   of the Cyprus problem  and the studies on the technical committees    are expected  to be completed until the weekend.

Presidential Spokesman Hasan Ercakıca  speaking to press at his weekly  press conference yesterday (25 July),  said the Turkish side  was well  prepared   to the new process started at 8 July, and was planning to submit  a list  of issues including the  basic  parameters of the Cyprus Problem.

Stating that the studies on the technical committee  lists  were continuing, Ercakıca said in consultation with  political parties and Turkey  they would complete the  preparations until the weekend.

Pointing out that the  confidence building  measures  proposed by  President Talat  did not include vital  measures, he  said  they included series of proposals, which would  ease the life  and  improve the relations. Ercakıca said   “by establishing a committee for harmonization and conciliation,  a mechanism where  the disagreements would be discussed   would be formed.”

Stressing that because of disagreements, caused from people’s different  expectations,  it was not  correct  to  give up form searching for solution, Ercakıca said in spite of the Greek Cypriot side’s  intransigent policy, the Turkish side, which is in favor of a peace,  was ready to  work for a permanent  solution.

Also commenting on earlier statements made by the Greek Cypriot Minister for Public Administration Sofoklis Sofokleus that controls at the checkpoints would be tightened on the issue of  the use of former Greek Cypriot properties in the Northern part of the island by the Turkish Cypriots, Mr. Ercakica  said  the “law”  they established  on this issue  was against the political realities of Cyprus  and  was an inhuman implementation.
