TURKISH
CYPRIOT CHAMBER OF ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS TO CARRY OUT A
DEMONSTRATION AT METEHAN
Turkish Cypriot Chamber
of Architects and Engineers (KTMMOB) carried out a demonstration at
Metehan Check Point this morning, with the aim of protesting the
“anachronistic applications of Greek Cypriot administration to their
members”.
In a statement issued
by the Chamber on 28 June 2006, it was announced that some architects
trying to cross over to South from the Metehan check-point were
arrested since they had architectural plans and documents issued by
the Turkish Cypriot authorities in their possession.
Turkish Cypriot
architect, Osman Sarper, was arrested at Metehan check-point on 27
June 2006, for carrying architectural plans and documents and remanded
in custody by the Greek Cypriot court for eight days on 28 June 2006.
The Chairman of KTMMOB
Ahmet Ulaş, in the written statement, pointed out that they considered
the arresting of the architects as the “action of anti-settlement
Greek Cypriots” and said that they expect the architects to be handed
their projects back and released as soon as possible.
