CYPRIOTS APPLIED FOR COMPENSATION AND RESTITUTION
Immovable Property
Commission established in line with the Law for the Compensation, Exchange
and Restitution of the Immovable Properties, which are within the scope of
Article 159 of the TRNC Constitution, is continuing to accept applications
from Greek Cypriots, who left their properties in the north.
According to information
received by a TAK reporter, many Greek Cypriots applied to the Commission
either to receive information or for compensation and restitution.
Following the completion
of necessary procedure in line with the laws and the regulation, the
applications of 8 Greek Cypriots from different regions such as Tatlısu,
Girne, Mağusa and Güzelyurt were put into process.
In accordance with the
related regulation, the Commission in respect of applications by Greek
Cypriots, within 21 days, has to issue an official notification to the
Attorney-General and to the individual, who holds the property right or
the right to use the property in respect to which claim was made, to
participate in the proceedings before the Commission, which would be held
within one month.
The Commission, which has
been accepting applications from Greek Cypriots since last month will have
its first proceeding in the forthcoming days. The commission, which shall
act as a court, after having heard the arguments of the parties and
witnesses, and having examined the documents submitted shall decide on the
issue.
Following the first
hearing other applications will be processed.
GREEK CYPRIOTS ARE PLEASED
WITH SEPARATION
According to the results
of a survey carried out by the Greek Cypriot Company VPRC & Public Issue,
40% of the Greek Cypriot people are pleased with living separately from
the Turkish Cypriots.
Majority of the Greek
Cypriots under the age of 45, are against living together with the Turkish
Cypriots. 61% of the Greek Cypriots between the ages 18-24 are in favour
of living separately from the Turkish Cypriots.
Only 50% of the Greek
Cypriots, who are not interested with the issues in the TRNC, had crossed
over to the North Cyprus since the opening of the borders.
Every 9 out of 10 Greek
Cypriots believe that the solution of the Cyprus problem in the
forthcoming months does not seem possible.
Almost all the Greek
Cypriots are against putting the Annan plan back on the table as a
negotiation basis and 58% of them are in favour of “a totally new plan”.
