SOYER “WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE TURKISH ACTION PLAN
ENVISAGIND THE LIFTING OF THE ISOLATIONS AND THE OPENING OF
THE PORTS SIMULTANEOUSLY”
Prime Minister Soyer speaking yesterday morning (September 5)
during a visit paid to him by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkosa
Aydan Karahan, who was accompanied by the newly appointed
Turkish Embassy Undersecretary Ibrahim Yagli and Consultant
Sipahi Ozkara, has stated that the Turkish Cypriot Side was
still committed to Turkey’s Action Plan on Cyprus calling for
the lifting of isolations and the opening of the ports
simultaneously.
Evaluating the report on Turkey, approved by the European
Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, he said Turkey and
the Turkish Cypriots had already announced a policy on the
issues stated in the report and underlined that the Turkish
Cypriot side supported Turkey’s action plan on Cyprus.
Soyer stating that in the Draft Report of the European
Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Turkey was asked to open
its ports to Greek Cypriot ships, and to recognize all EU
member states including South Cyprus Greek Cypriot
Administration, said with Turkey’s Action Plan all these
issues could be solved.
Soyer said that the European Union should support the
simultaneous lifting of restrictions on the use of ports if it
wants to contribute to peace efforts in Cyprus and be committed
to its principles. He said they will continue to spend efforts
for the implementation of the Action Plan.
Stating that the decision was approved and supported by EU
parliamentarians at the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs
Committee, having different political inclinations, Soyer
said the Turkish Cypriot side was committed to the EU
principles and wanted to take its place within the union after a
solution as one of the two politically equal sides in Cyprus.
“The European Union principles includes a decision supporting
the Annan Plan for a solution to the Cyprus problem`, he said,
adding that it was the Greek Cypriot Administration – which
usurped the title of the Republic of Cyprus – that acted in
violation of this decision taken by the Union itself.
Soyer reminded that the European Union also had taken a
decision to help lift the international isolation of the Turkish
Cypriot people but added that this decision had not been
implemented because of the opposition of its own members.
Prime Minister Soyer said as a government they were always in
cooperation and dialogue with Turkish government.
