PRESIDENT FINLANDS PROPOSAL
Cyprus Turkish
Ship Agencies Association, Cyprus Turkish Dockers' Company,
Cyprus Turkish International Transporters
Association and Özkam Truck Owners Association reacted to EU
Term President Finland’s proposal envisaging the operation of
Gazi Magusa Port by the EU.
Said associations,

proposal aimed at usurping the rights of the Turkish Cypriots
and exploiting Turkey’s good intention.
In the joint
statement it was stated that:
“We would like to
announce our people, state officials and diplomatic institutions
that we are observing with anxiety the EU Term President
Finland’s proposal aimed at usurping the rights of the Turkish
Cypriots for the sake of preventing a train crash in Turkey’s EU
membership negotiations.
The associations
also expressed the view that although the opening of Varosa
would provide important gains to Gazi Magusa, this should take
place after a comprehensive settlement.
Stressing that
they would never accept the transfer or the joint operation of
the port by the third parties, the associations reminded that
the EU has not fulfilled its responsibilities for Turkish
Cypriots following the referendum and said both the EU and the

keep.
