PRESIDENT TALAT: “WHOEVER WINS,  I AM SINCERELY READY TO SIT AT THE NEGOTIATION TABLE”

President Mehmet Ali Talat has stressed that the Turkish Cypriot Side is ready to sit at the negotiations table regardless of who wins the Presidential election in South Cyprus.

The President told the TAK news agency that the only expectation of him from the elections in the South was the prevention of the repetition of the process gone through in the past four years.

President Talat said that no important progress was achieved in the talks carried with the Greek Cypriot Leadership in the past four years.

He said that the Greek Cypriot People  beside other reasons, voted in favor of real progress on the Cyprus issue and expressed the hope that he will soon start negotiations with a new Greek Cypriot Leader to bring about a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.

Responding to a question  whom he  prefers to be elected at the end of the second round,  President Talat said  whoever wins the  election  he was sincerely ready to sit at the negotiation table  for  solving the Cyprus issue.

`My expectation is to meet with a new leader who is looking to the future with hope in the light of UN parameters to prevent the division of the island from becoming permanent` the president noted.
